Last week we looked at Couples Coaching...however sometimes things just don't work out. That's why this week, we're looking at the growing demand for Divorce Coaching.

According to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri, 50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages in the United States end in divorce.

In fact, divorce is such a big topic of discussion the Huffington Post actually has a whole sub-section on it!

The reasons for the trend are plentiful - some of which are stated in this infographic. All this divorce is bittersweet for the growing number of divorce coaches who are jumping at the opportunity to help those going through such an emotionally volatile time.

Here is a bit more info for those thinking about being a professional coach, and perhaps specializing in divorce coaching:

Typical Clients

Clients can include both men and women looking for support and guidance through and after a divorce.

What Is Involved

During and after a divorce, a client will likely be experiencing painful emotions and loss of direction. It is the divorce coach’s role to support their client through this tough time, helping them to create a Solution-Focused action plan for living happily.

Specifically, clients may need guidance in establishing effective communications with their ex-partner, arranging a healthy co-parenting strategy and expanding their skills and mindset to boost their independence and eventual happiness.

As a divorce coach, some of your role may include helping your client to:

  • Increase their self-confidence.
  • Move past the pain of divorce.
  • View themselves as whole and complete.
  • Communicate more effectively with their ex-spouse.
  • Address the barriers that keep them from moving forward.
  • Set clear co-parenting goals.
  • Separate the emotions from the legal issues.
  • Help transition from married life to being single again.
  • Set new goals for financial security and stability.
  • Realize the benefits of being single.
