Welcome! You are on your way to becoming an Erickson Coach. For the value of you having the most productive and meaningful experience, here are the top ways to best support your expanding journey ahead.
- Before Your Course Starts
Set up your learning environment – As best you can, clear away any known distractions so you can show up open and present to the material, and your fellow coaches.
Get Orientated - If you’re training online, you will receive an invite to Erickson’s Online Academy. Here you can read all about the course you are taking, your facilitators, and extra information. Pay special attention to your class times and ensure that your zoom account is ready for use.
Become Best Friends With the Erickson Resource Center - On Erickson’s website you can find a range of useful resources in the form of blogs, videos, downloadables, quizzes and worksheets. This is a great place to familiarize yourself with Erickson’s Solution-Focused coach approach and some of the techniques that you will be introduced to in your training.
- During Your Course
Be aware of your strengths – You know how you learn best. Acknowledge your strengths as a learner and leverage them throughout your training.
Be OK with any discomfort - Like stepping into anything new in your life, there will be a learning curve. New information, perspectives, people, structures, and schedules will be a part of your experience. New skills take time. Be patient with yourself and trust the process.
Do your Prep Work – If you are training online, engage in the discussions, watch the videos, and submit your quizzes for the relevant upcoming session. This will allow even deeper integration during the live session.
Consider the Future - You likely have a vision of how you want to leverage your coaching talents in the future. Begin exploring Erickson's business building and International Coaching Federation (ICF) resources if you wish to gain your ICF credentials. PS - You can start collecting your coaching hours right away!
Prepare your mind and body – Learning and expansion takes energy. Come into your training nourished and clear-headed. Stretch during breaks, or have a moment or two of silence.
Practice…a lot – Exercise the muscle of coaching with as many people as you can. A variety of coachees offers the opportunity to stretch your skills and build confidence. We’d recommend jumping into coaching practice as early as possible.
Lean into your own personal growth – Your coach training focuses on human development and integrative ways of assisting people with their own personal transformations. Given that, your own growth is inevitable. A good idea is to keep a separate notebook to document and expand on what you are learning about yourself.
Join the free Erickson+ app – From after your first session, you are able to connect with hundreds of Erickson coaches around the world on the Erickson+ App. You can also attend events, ask questions, start a discussion, and find even more people to practice with. Begin to build your coaching community!
Reach out for help – Your Enrollers, Facilitators, Teaching Assistants, and coach cohort are here to ensure you are on track with your learning. We are all in this together!
