How Coaching Skills Can Help You Lead Through Pandemic

written byErickson Coaching Internationalon 09/04/2020

We’re all challenged.
Our lives have dramatically changed over the past two months. There are drastic restrictions on movement; gyms, restaurants, sports stadiums, and theatres have come to a halt; and employers have issued closing or work-from-home directives. We are all struggling in our unique ways with this new reality. The stress due to the uncertainty, the sense of loss from previous daily routines and the additional challenges faced with working from home.

How do we embrace the discomfort to find growth and opportunity?
Try to create the best possible life, given the current circumstances. The current global crisis presents many challenges - but it presents an opportunity too: To invest in yourself and develop yourself personally and professionally with online courses.

Be social while you’re in lockdown: Community and connection
Our live online programs offer the same quality of peer engagement as our face-to-face programs. Online training brings together many different cultures and perspectives and enables you to share experiences and practice with like-minded participants from anywhere in the world.

Build virtual leadership skills
Relationships mediated by technology present an inherent challenge that cannot be ignored by organizations and their leaders: It's more difficult to establish trust, connection, and mutual purpose when there's no in-person contact. Erickson's live online training helps you overcome these challenges: Participants will develop rapport skills to build trust and connection, and listening and questioning skills to establish connection and align personal and organizational values.

Equip yourself with skills to help employees weather this crisis

Our training programs will equip you with the tools to lead effectively in turbulent times. The skills and tools that you'll walk away with will help you:

  • Keep remote employees inspired and engage: A leader-as-coach motivates employees and boosts employee engagement (Brandon Hall Group, 2015).
  • Leverage team members' individual strengths: A leader-as-coach asks powerful questions to elicit the inner resources and creativity in employees; and supports employees to establish clear goals and commitment to them. The approach empowers employees to resolve challenging situations on their own.
  • Move employees to a resourceful state: A leader-as-coach trained by Erickson is Solution-Focused: The leader-as-coach enables employees to move from stress to resourcefulness; to shift from the problem (past experiences or reasons for present dissatisfaction) to solutions (new and meaningful outcomes).

Online training supports a deeper integration of skills

You will participate in 1 to 2 training sessions per week (2 to 3 hours per session). It enables you to practice and apply the skills in real-life situations between sessions, and to share real-life experiences with your facilitators and peers in your next session.
